Biography

Laurence McConnell, is one of N.I. and Irelands greatest international competitors.

Not only does he hold some of the highest records ever set, with a total of 256kg, but he set the records aged in his 60's.

As well as being one of the best lifters, Laurence is also one of the most entertaining lifters ever to grace the platform, and the only N.I. athlete to hold a weightlifting World Record, let alone 3.

He has lifted for many years, pictured (top) in the early 70's, and has consistently dominated Irish weightlifting, He still lifts to the current day (pictured left in 2008), consistent with heavy lifts and a playful attitude.
